Week 14
- The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did.
- In the lab this week we talked about about greenhouse gasses. We discussed that the 3 greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere are CH4, CO2, and H20. In the lab, we talked about in detail how the greenhouse effect works. The greenhouse effect refers to the process by which certain gases in the Earth's atmosphere trap and retain heat from the sun, leading to an increase in the temperature of the planet.
- A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture.
- The snowball Earth has Albedo 1 (reflecting sunlight with no absorption). However, the snowball Earth eventually melted because of oceanic volcanoes which ended up breaking ice and exposing the blue water. With more color being shown more sunlight was absorbed. Also with the fumes of the volcano were CO2 which heated the Earth.
- Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading:
- What did you learn?
- During the reading, I learned about the glacier retreat which is when glaciers melt at a faster rate than snow falls to rebuild the glacier's mass. Glacier melting affects the ecosystem of an area because different plants and animals will not be able to survive the changing landscape.
- What was most helpful?
- The video about rising sea levels, which explains thermal expansion.
- What do you need more information on?
- More answers/solutions to ways that we can help the planet.
