Week 11

  1. The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did.
    1. This week in the lab we analyzed different types of sand. We looked at sand from all over the world and tried to see what kind of occurrence made the sand. For example, there were three kinds, water, wind, and glaciers. The hardest weathered sand to analyze its type was the wind.
  2. A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture.
    1. This week in the lecture, we discussed what is water displacement. We talked about the story of Archimedes's Principle. I read about it in the book before class so I felt like I knew the topic. We then tied together how rocks tie into water displacement. When a rock sinks, it has a higher volume/density than the water.
  3. Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading:
    1. What did you learn?
      1. I learned about Archimedes' principle. This is the idea that when something is immersed in a fluid, it shows the equal weight of the object.
    2. What was most helpful?
      1. The video explained Archimedes' principle because I did not know what it was.
    3. What do you need more information on?
      1. Explanation of the rock cycle.
