Climate science

  1. The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did.
    1. This week's lab we looked at climate change through image changing. We used the NASA website to help look at images all around the world. Through the NASA website, there were topics that you can narrow down the impact by. The website showed ice melting, sea level rising, more land being taken over by humans, fire impact, flooding, deforestation, and so many more reasons. We continued to discuss climate change and how it is a scary topic, but is very real.
    2. We then did an investigation about rainfall in the areas of Iowa. My group did the Iowa Lakes Community College area. After finding all the rainfall throughout the years, we found that this area has had a 5% decrease over the years.
  2. Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading:
    1. What did you learn?
      1.  During this reading, I learned that according to climate change, Iowa will have an increase in precipitation that will cause floods and more periods of drought.
    2. What was most helpful?
      1. The impact on the agriculture section talks about how there will be increased precipitation and flooding which leads to soil erosion and poor soil health. Also, it talks about livestock animals will have an increased risk for sickness and death due to high temps.
    3. What do you need more information on?
      1. How can we help make a change?
