Week 9

  1. The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did.
    1. This week in lab, we thought about the timeline of Earth. We had to think about when did the humans walk the earth? When did dinosaurs? When were the first land plants on Earth? We had to use our background knowledge to try and figure these ideas out. We all knew Earth was made 4.65 billion years ago, so when did everything else follow? After researching the interactive earth view, it was crazy how everything was spaced out. We learned that humans just started walking the earth compared to everything else. My group researched 2 billion years to 1 billion years. We learned that the chloroplasts evolved and Sudbury struck.
  2. Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading:
    1. What did you learn?
      1. In the reading, I learned about the snowball Earth. This is when the Earth is covered almost entirely by ice. This also happened 3 times! This occurred because of something called a positive feedback loop. Earth was in a loop where it grew ice, increased Albedo, less insolation, and then cooled down.
    2. What was most helpful?
      1. I found that the pictures of Pangea separating over millions of years helped me understand that it did not all just split at once like I thought.
    3. What do you need more information on?
      1.  Is continental drift not a correct theory then since it was replaced?
  3. Video
