Week 2 methods 2

The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did. The theme/question this week in lab was, what affects a rider's speed going down the slide? In the lab, we conducted an experiment where we tested to see if different fabrics affected the speed of a block going down a slide. Our findings were that yes, it does affect the speed. The more silky/smooth texture makes the plain block go faster, versus when there is a cotton or felt fabric, it is hard to go down and needs a big push.  A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture. This week in the lecture we talked about acceleration, velocity, friction, and force. We looked at the deeper meaning behind why racers gain speed while going down a slide. It all depends on the height, steepness, and surface. The biggest ah-ha moment was learning that a magnet on the front of a refrigerator is friction.  Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading: What did you learn? This week's reading was about fo...

Week 1 methods 2

Week 1: motion The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did. The big idea that we talked about in lab was motion, specifically how to measure the speed of an object. In lab we made a model of a race to see how we can make a race more exciting between two students (when one is faster than the other). We first measured how fast ahead Julia was compared to Elayna. Julia won by a few seconds more so we decided to let Elayna have a 2 meter head start. Julia then lost the race by a lot. We then made Elyana only start early by 1 meter which made them finish around the same time.  A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture. On Thursday we learned that measuring the spot and motion of an object, we can predict where it will end up in the future.  Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading: What did you learn? In this chapter I learned how to precisely describe motion. To describe motion, you need to look at positions and speed. What was most...
